What was holding you back from being an entrepreneur?
The lack of business skills coming from the creative field. The whole business world is a different world with different languages, different techniques, and different mindsets.
What was your worst entrepreneurial moment?
I would say having a lack of confidence in myself and in my outlook. Trying to reach for advice from all the outside, and sometimes their advice would be applicable to certain aspects of business, but not to my mission and what I am trying to do. I would take advice from people that I believe are more experienced than I am, but then found that it actually didn’t help me and took me backwards. It didn’t allow me to grow the business in a direction that it should have from when I started. I had lacked confidence in myself and over my own decision making.
How did you gain clarity and know what steps to do next?
Being proactive about it, not just like talking about things in theory. Actually taking the steps and doing it. I might loose some money or resources, but I was getting a better understanding of what works and what doesn't. Maybe I am doing it wrong or can do better in a different way. Overall. actually implementing different techniques and getting the feedback and the responses from people. Being able to grow from that experience, rather than just taking suggestions and opinions from others and then trying to change everything based on another person’s opinion.
What did you get out of today's 1MC?
I was able to practice my public speaking and presentation skills. I really appreciate that opportunity. Another thing I really appreciate are that people are in the same mindset and in the same environment. A lot of times, I was surrounded by individuals who were creative, liked the ideas, but then necessarily didn’t have the entrepreneurial mindset. Therefore, they didn’t strive to be a successful in a way versus the people in 1MC where a lot of the audience are people participating in the same thing. They are motivated and having that kind of an environment helps me.
How can someone reading this help you?
What I am hoping to hear back, now is the time, really important for us to not just do networking but to go beyond just concepts, ideas, suggestions, and actually have physical actions. You can be a teacher of a class and want to bring in our books to your students. Having more tangible actions, even though not fully structured and organized is a good way to test out how people are actually reacting to our products
