What was holding you back from being an entrepreneur?
It was really difficult for me to leave my former job. I loved the company, my boss, and my coworkers. I was in a position where I was growing rapidly and being adequately compensated for my contributions. However, the idea to start HoverStat just kept eating away at me until it was all I could think about. As soon as I had enough money saved up to quit, I quit.
What was your worst entrepreneurial moment? How did you gain clarity and know what steps to do next?
My worst entrepreneurial moment was when I found out that our competitors were farther along than we thought we were. I had this horrible feeling that maybe it would be impossible to compete knowing they were at such a developed stage. However, I forced myself to take a step back and re-visit our differentiators. Our product is truly new, innovative, and turn-key for the markets we're targeting, and it's only a matter of time and hard work before our customers see that.
What did you get out of presenting at 1MC?
1MC is unique compared to the other venues in which I've presented in that everyone in the room is either an entrepreneur or someone who is incredibly supportive of entrepreneurs. There was no Shark Tank mentality; everyone there was actually interested in our company and product and wanted to help and support us. I also met some of the Toastmaster Meetup group there and had the opportunity to present at one of their Meetups, which was an awesome way to continue honing my presentation skills.
