What was holding you back from being an entrepreneur?
From a young age, I’ve always wanted to help people. I remember reading a children’s book called Rent-A-Genius and using the skills I learned to solve problems in my home country, Nigeria. But, I would say that the most important factor that was holding me back from being an entrepreneur was myself. Initially, I was always scared to fail or take risks. But I’ve come to realise that the most dangerous thing about being an entrepreneur is being scared to fail and then, not learning from your mistakes.
What was your worst entrepreneurial moment? How did you gain clarity and know what steps to do next?
My worst entrepreneurial moment was probably after I read Rent-A-Genius at age 9. Whenever I tried to carry out what I read in the book in real life, I was often laughed at. I remember trying to solve my Uncle’s problem: wanting to make money. As I came up with a solution to his ‘no money’ situation, he started to laugh and I thought to myself: “I’m probably not a genius after all”. I had no self-confidence. Then, I started to read more books on entrepreneurship and watch shows like Dragon’s Den and attempt to think of million dollar ideas. I’m sure that if I offered to help him make money in present day, my Uncle would jump at the opportunity in a heartbeat.
What did you get out of presenting at 1MC?
Presenting at 1MC was a fabulous experience. The feedback (both positive and negative) I received was very valuable. Amongst the audience were entrepreneurs (past and present), developers, professors, students, and lawyers. It was great to hear what they thought of ParkAmigo and our mobile app which is now available on the App Store and Google Play.
How can someone reading this help you?
Like I said before, I’m always looking to hear what other people have to say. We’re currently in the process of running our pilot. If any individuals (preferably in Syracuse) would like to be part of our beta, please feel free to email me: email@example.com . We’re always interested to hear what people think of ParkAmigo and how we can make parking a better experience for you so please feel free to reach out to me via email or you can also contact my co-founder Natã Barbosa on firstname.lastname@example.org.
